Medicare Advantage

After you have enrolled in Original Medicare (Parts A and B), if you decide you would like additional coverage you have two ways to get it. It is important to understand that with both options below you still have Original Medicare and must continue to pay your Part B premium.

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Medicare Advantage Plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. You may choose a Medicare Advantage Plan instead of Original Medicare Part A and Part B. Many Medicare Advantage Plans also include Prescription Drug Coverage; costs may vary between counties. Consult with the professionals at ePlatinum Health to see if a Medicare Advantage Plan is right for you.

More Coverage, Limited Providers

Medicare Advantage Plans cover the same health services as Medicare Parts A and B. Some plans even include added wellness coverage such as annual physicals, vision, hearing, or dental care. Most plans function like Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) or Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs). That means that you need to use doctors and other care providers that are designated in your plan; some plans may require referrals or pre-authorizations for certain services. Have one of our agents at ePlatinum Health visit with you to work through your choices.

Out-of-Pocket Spending Cap

Medicare Advantage Plans limit how much you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket over the course of the year. In 2018 no plan can have higher than a $6,700 out-of-pocket maximum, but many plans’ maximums are lower. Unlike Original Medicare, once you reach your plan’s set amount you will pay nothing out-of-pocket for the rest of the year. This feature may be vital for you, and if cost is a concern be sure to mention this to your agent when you meet.

Geography Matters

The cost of a Medicare Advantage Plan changes from county to county. The government determines the benchmark for each one, and companies submit bids that may be higher or lower than that benchmark. If higher, then you pay more; if lower, then the company receives a rebate and provides extra coverage. The experts at ePlatinum Health can help you analyze your best option.

Neither ePlatinumHealth nor its agents are connected with the Federal Medicare Program.
